Clovis Sunsets

Even though my phone does not capture the majesty...I love Clovis sunsets!

53 Blogs and 3 suggestions

I subscribe to 53 different blogs. 99 percent of them are ministry related blogs. About half of them are Northpoint Community Church affiliated in someway. 9 of them are personal friends blogs. 8 of them are Fresno or Clovis ministry blogs. 8 of them are random ministry blogs.

I love hearing what amazing ministries are doing across the country. Got some suggestions? I'd like to read them.

Here are 3 suggestions for you in no particular order:

  • Paul Haugen - A worship leader at Clovis Hills Community Church in Fresno, Ca. A good friend of mine who recently came back from a mission trip to Africa (AKA "Rock the Horn"). He should be putting up some incredible pictures and maybe even some video soon.
  • Carlos Whittaker (Ragamuffin Soul) - An employee of Buckhead Church in Atlanta, Ga. Unapologetically real and open with his readers...and he's got a ton.
  • Dan Long - A fellow Pepperdine University Alumn. He's now at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, Ca. I spent a couple of months in Heidelberg, DE (Germany) with this guy. Very intelligent and fun. I call him "Brother."

Zoe Worship Conference: Look to the Hills - Fresno, Ca

I went to a couple of sessions from the conference this past weekend. I was very impressed by an artist that was painting during one of the main speakers. I tried to get a website or electronic contact, but he's not up-to-date with that stuff yet. So I thought I'd just post a couple of pictures. He used lots of great things. Hard to explain. Sitting next to Josh Dildine, an artist, and asking him about it really helped me understand how he got the multiple layers in there.

One picture show how we painted planets colliding and another shows what happens when you turn on the blacklight. Pretty cool, eh?

John Calhoun

I'm trying to get my friend John Calhoun to become a blogger. When I try to convince people to start on this electronic venture many of them say, "but I just don't have anything interesting to say." Well, personally, I don't care. I just want to know what the latest is with my friends. I'm not asking you to start a theologically awesome blog...just a little update on life would be nice.

Well, here's a picture of John from this weekend. He and his wife attended the Zoe Conference in Fresno, Ca. and stayed at our place for the weekend. We took them on a tour of our church campus and he wanted to see what it felt like to sit on a tiny toilet. Hahaha!

Axis Community Church Plant

I just read this blog post from this dude...I had no idea of the projected growth of our great city. Wow, now I'm asking God to bust our doors wide open...create more churches that seek His face and plant, plant, plant!

"Join our Launch Team?

By 2020 our population in Fresno is projected to grow by 362,000 people. If we were to provide a church for only 10% of the new growth, we will need 72 new churches with 500 members.

No county in America has more Christians in it today than it did 10 years ago. Church planting is the most biblical way of evangelism. The Church is God’s plan for a broken and lost world.

Even though church planting is extremely important and significant, you don’t need any special skills to join this church planting team. We are looking to increase the size of this team every single day until we ‘launch’ in May.

Came across this blog entry today. It's basically a campaign to get every person working for a church to start an individual blog. Imagine that. Imagine that every employee of every church starting blogging. Do you know how fast the blogosphere would take notice? There's a ton of reasons why I believe it incredibly important to blog. But these guys give their own top 5 reasons. Check it out.

Twittering Tweets

Twitter.com

Ok, so you might have seen the crazy updates on the sidebar to the right. It's called Twitter. It's an application that let's you do a 'status updates' just like you can do within Facebook. However, this syncs with my facebook account, my blog and my twitter. It's awesome! you need to sign up for a twitter account and let me know "what you are doing." Just start to "follow" people and they'll probably start "following" you. Try it people!

Sweet Relationships

Re:action, our new college ministry, is getting ready to go public. I am truly thankful for the Vine Christian Church's Free Resources, known as SWAG. Because of their hard work in creating nice bumper videos and graphics for series I don't have to spend a ton of time doing that. You fill the content, but they make the graphics and it's free. It's great. It's a gift from God. Starting on Jan. 28th, we're going to be going through a series called Sweet Relationships. I'm pumped. Seriously, I can't wait to see the people who walk in the door and I can't wait to share what God tells me to say. If you want to invest in the stock known as Re:action (Symbol reA) please take some time and pray for the college students of Fresno and Clovis, CA.

Podcasting Catalyst

I'm starting a brand new podcast for our high school environment (Catalyst). On Sunday night we had a great time. Our band worked hard and pulled off a really difficult song (Broadcast by FEE, formerly known as Steve Fee). We showed a video (I hope to put it up here sometime) of one of our families...the Smith family...that has had a large impact on so many people. Then one of them, Ryan Smith, came on stage and I interviewed him. You should hear his story. You should meet him. Pssst...he's also going to be in our Leadership Training Institute program. And he owns Creative Tile here in Fresno, Ca. The man loves God and wants to spread His love. Can't wait to see how God uses him!

There's a New Guy in Town

Today Erica and I are going to lunch with Brandon Howland and his wife. They just moved into town and are he is now working at College Church of Christ here in Fresno, Ca as their new Youth Ministry. Brandon was at the Whittier Church of Christ before I was there. And now he's in my hometown at the congregation I grew up at. He called me up a few days ago and we settled on lunch today. I'm glad to see that church finally got someone to lead their students! It's been almost two years since they've had someone in that post and I've seen a lot of people leave simply because there's no one to lead their students. I hope I can help him with any information he may want/need to be a successful youth leader in this environment and culture. More on this later.

Recharge

I think Monday mornings will be a huge recharging time for me. Sundays are crazy now that we've launched a new high school ministry and Monday nights I have Re:action. It's good to take it slow on Monday mornings and just talk to God.
